Two terror suspects released after protests by muslims congress and APP joined in

New Delhi: After long protests by Jamia residents backed by AAP and Congress leaders on Sunday, the two students who were detained by the police in connection with the arrest of IM operatives were released late evening. They were, however, asked by the special cell to join the probe later.

The students were detained after Delhi Police busted an Indian Mujahideen module with the arrest of four terrorists in Rajasthan, who were planning a terror attack during Lok Sabha elections. The police made the arrest after they got specific input from the Intelligence Bureau. A significant amount of explosives were also recovered during the arrests.

Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said, "It is a big success. Waqas was wanted in many cases." Shinde, however, refused to divulge more details.

One of the arrested, Waqas is a close aide of Yasin Bhatkal and an accused in the 2011 Zaveri Bazar blasts in Mumbai.
Zia ur Rehman better known as Waqas is a Pakistani national who was trained by Lashkar and Jaish before being sent to India to help the Indian Mujhaheedin. His help was sought for his expertise in bomb making. Apart from him, Delhi's special cell also picked up three other terror suspects Mohammad Waqar Azhar, Mohammad Mahruf and Shaquib Ansari.
An expert in making electrical circuits for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), Waqas has played an active role in a number of blasts since 2010. He was involved in the Jama Masjid shootout in September, 2010, the Varanasi bomb blast in December, 2010, the Mumbai serial blasts in July, 2011, the 2012 Pune blasts and the Hyderabad twin blasts in February 2013.
While the Delhi Police is tight lipped about the exact nature of attack, sources indicate that there was a clear attempt to disturb the electoral process. The terror suspects wanted to take advantage of the relative low security of political leaders and large number of public meetings to plan a spectacular attack.
