UP chief minister and BSP supremo Mayawati has suspended her party MLA Shahnawaz Rana (muslim) whose aides have been arrested by the police for kidnapping two girls and trying to rape them in Muzaffarnagar. She has also directed special task force of the state police to probe into the matter. Rana has several criminal cases pending against him in police record.
According to UP home secretary Fateh Bahadur Singh, the girls hailed from Delhi and were on their way home after spending some time in the hill station of Mussoorie in Uttarakhand. The culprits intercepted vehicle in which the girls were travelling with their cousins on Tuesday night on the busy national highway and kidnapped them on gun point.
The victims were forced to stop their vehicle near a petrol pump. Later, the accused were joined by a few other men, who were in an SUV fitted with red beacon. They thrashed the two cousins of the girls. They girls were kidnapped and taken to a secluded spot. One of victims, however, managed to call the police for her mobile phone.
The police has registered a case of kidnapping, molestation and attempted rape against MLA's aides. Two of them, - Dilshad Mahmood and Ragib, have been arrested. The vehicle used in the crime has also been recovered. The police has also found the firearm used in the crime. Police also raided MLA's house in Bijnore and other places to arrest the accused.
Narendra Kumar Khokhar and Jarar Husain, the two bodyguards provided to MLA's wife Intikhab Rana have also been arrested and put under suspension. The two body guards were also named in the complaint. The MLA's wife is jila panchayat chairman, Muzaffarnagar.
Mayawati has issued a warning to all party leaders that any act of violating law will not be tolerated no matter who so ever he/she is. Mayawati has taken action against over 12 party leaders for their alleged involvement in criminal activities since 2007 when she came to power. However, despite that, BSP leaders continue to figure in the news for the wrong reasons.
Brothers arrested
Saddam Rana and Shahjad Rana, who were accused of kidnapping two girls and trying to rape them, have been arrested. The duo are brothers of BSP MLA Shahnawaz Rana and were arrested in Muzaffarnagar by the police on Friday evening. The three vehicles used for crime have also been recovered. The vehicles were registered in the name of Rana group of companies.The two brothers were declared absconders with an award of Rs 5,000 each.
